The tech world is known for being a fast-moving, innovation-first industry. However, Michael A, the founder and CEO of Rita Group, is focused less on racing to scale at any cost and more on purpose. Born and raised in Brooklyn, the son of Mexican immigrant parents, he has spent his career building products for multiple firms. He’s also the driving force behind a multifaceted ed-tech movement that creates opportunities for underrepresented communities.

Closing the Tech Gap

Michael A has recognized shortcomings in the tech industry. One of the most glaring issues is the lack of diversity in digital spaces, with studies reflecting only 15% of the tech workforce coming from BAME backgrounds and gender diversity at 19%. Far too often, communities of color face barriers to entry into the field. As a first-generation college graduate, Michael A is determined to change that through the Rita Group with the help of AI, technology, and community-driven initiatives.

Technologists as the New Hustlers

The Rita Group operates as a multifaceted ecosystem. Each part addresses a different pain point for aspiring technologists. Rita Lab cultivates a community through mentorship programs and events. It provides real-world guidance that traditional classrooms often fail to deliver. Rita ABC takes it further by using AI to offer career-tracking tools that demystify the job market for those just starting out. Meanwhile, Rita XYZ connects small business owners with diverse technologists. It creates mutually beneficial collaborations that amplify cultural impact.

Michael A’s passion for helping marginalized communities is personal. As a child, he watched his father juggle three jobs to provide for their family. Meanwhile, Michael A taught himself web design in high school. This upbringing gave him a front-row seat to the power of perseverance. These lessons now inform his company’s mission of reclaiming “hustle” as a cultural asset.

At the Crossroads with AI and DEI

Michael A critiques traditional education models. In his view, they have failed to adapt to the rapid pace of technological advancement. As a result, many students lack the tools to succeed in high-tech careers. Rita Group tackles this head-on by using AI to make education and career-building more accessible.

However, Michael A doesn’t view AI as a fix-all solution. Other factors play a role in leveling the playing field. In particular, DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) is close to his heart. The visionary businessman takes a firm stance against the anti-DEI movement. He argues that diversity is essential for ushering in the next wave of technologists.

He also acknowledges that AI can be used to further anti-DEI sentiments, such as bias in training data, but he emphasizes that his focus is on harnessing AI’s positive potential to support DEI initiatives. Because of this, he has mentored hundreds of students. Michael A is determined to tackle these issues head-on to ensure AI and DEI efforts align in ways that empower underrepresented communities.

Monday Motivation and Innovation

Perhaps one of Rita Group’s most unique initiatives is the #builtformondai campaign. It aims to reframe how people view Mondays. Instead of being a dreaded start to the work week, it’s a launch pad for creativity.

Every Monday, the company unveils a new tech product. The big reveals seek to spark conversations about what’s possible when innovation meets purpose. For Michael A, campaigns like this aren’t marketing ploys. Instead, they show the world that technology can be a force for good.

Time for a Game Change

Michael A has ambitious plans. Rita Group is gearing up to launch the Rita ABC app, which will bring AI-driven career tools directly into the hands of aspiring technologists. The company is also expanding its community-driven efforts with a crowdfunding campaign to support its initiatives. Although big tech dominates headlines, Michael A sees a different future. This savvy innovator believes the next phase is new, alternative, and niche tech.

“When you focus on products, you contribute to the game. When you focus on infrastructure, you change the game,” Michael A says. With Rita Group as a guide, the new generation of hustlers is gearing up to change the tech game. Learn more about Michael A on LinkedIn. Explore the initiatives on Instagram, Bluesky, and YouTube
